Frequently Asked

Questions

  • Where is Newcastle Community Garden located?
Next to the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex in Newcastle, Ontario, Canada.
  • How does the community garden work?
Plots are available for individuals, groups or organizations to rent for the season. Following the garden's guidelines, you can tend and grow your garden in a group setting. For the 2024 season, plots are $75.00 for 3.5 ft x 32 ft plot, limit of one plot per household. There will also be volunteer opportunities for those who do not want to rent a plot but would still like to get involved. We also work with Clarington East Foodbank to donate fresh produce.
  • Is it an organic garden?
Yes. All gardeners and volunteers are required to use organic gardening techniques.
  • Will there be an educational element to Newcastle Community Garden?
Yes. Our hope is to work with local schools for field trips to learn about gardening, have signage with educational and local historical information on it, and to run gardening workshops for both children and adults.
  • How are decisions made regarding the Newcastle Community Garden?
A volunteer board meets regularly to vote on any decisions that need to be made. At this time, all board positions have been filled. Any openings will be shared on this website.
